Tristan de Liège continues to create exceptionally beautiful music that blur the boarders of genre and is somehow unique to his own sound. The string sections elevate the emotional sensibilities of the compositions. Very cool percussive combinations. The production is detailed and dialed in. Gorgeous sounds. Thank you for another great release.

This album represents many things for me, as it has been made during a sometimes turbulent and shifting phase in my life, as I approached the end of my 20s and have been reimagining my life in many ways. One of the things I find fascinating in life is how our perception of ourselves, what we’re doing, and what we want to achieve evolves and changes over time. This is what made me think of the metaphor of refractions, of light changing direction and looking different in different environments.
I got my PhD in philosophy in September and it’s the culmination of years where my philosophy studies were accompanying my “second life” as it were as a composer and producer. And now that I’m moving deeper into both careers I’m faced with a newer sense of needing to define what I’m doing in each and why, and it’s causing me to seek new pathways of integrating them together. On the other hand it’s also changing how I’m thinking about what success and achievement means for me; I think before I reached this point I had the goal of making music my single full-time career by the time I finished studying. But now I’ve realized that making music alongside my intellectual work helps me keep it in perspective and that these two life-activities offer different values for me. Music allows me to express my inner explorer and play with some of my favorite people in the world (the musicians with whom I collaborate). My intellectual work feeds my inner need to figure things out and know that I am going on a right path.
As with my past work, I’ve been very fortunate to work with some incredible artists and musicians on this album. In particular the artwork features art by New York contemporary artist Patti Jordan, whose abstract ink artworks I found to be beautiful and fitting the mood of my album quite well. I also want to extend an extra thanks to Jodhi for his mastering work and close listening and feedback.
Thanks for listening and supporting. If you enjoy the album, or it impacts you in a memorable way, please send along a message, I’d love to hear from you.

Tristan de Liège began his exploration of music in high school, first playing in bands and eventually exploring electronic
music. His sound is inspired by instrumental hiphop and downtempo artists and also his love of film soundtracks and orchestral arrangements....more
This is an amazing example of the rich, organic, melodic possibilites of electronic music. One of the few artists I'm putting on the level of Emancipator in the genre. meatnordrink
